So this past weekend at the Highland Church of Christ, we talked about the vision for Highland for the next 10 years of her existence. It was the product of 18 months of the staff and shepherd praying, fasting and discerning what we would be about of the next decade. And we are doing it all to partner with God in his dream of Restoration. We're calling it A Restoration Movement.

Who is Worthy?

The problem with the people of God is that we are people...and we want to be God. That's kind of been the problem from the beginning. We have always been called by God to do something in the evil around us, but as hard as we try we keep coming back to the realization that the evil isn't just "out there" it's in us too. We start unity movements and then call it "The Church." We try to give generously to a cause and find out the senior Pastor has been embezzling the money. We fight for family values as we watch our own marriages fall apart.

Your First Love

One of my favorite books from last year was "With" by Skye Jethani. He asks the question What is the most important thing in your life, what is your treasure?" He points out that if the answer to that question isn't Jesus. Then what you've got, no matter how great it is, is an idol. And the church might just be the one to blame.

The Glory of God

As we go into this season for one more year, as we dream about the gifts we will be able to give, and stress about the ones we won't. As we hustle and stress on a treadmill that just seems to get faster, remember what this season is really trying to do. It's calling us to see and treat the ones around us better, despite how they look or what resources they bring to the table. Because that's the way Jesus did. Because that's the glory of God.
