One of my favorite books from last year was "With" by Skye Jethani. He asks the question What is the most important thing in your life, what is your treasure?" He points out that if the answer to that question isn't Jesus. Then what you've got, no matter how great it is, is an idol. And the church might just be the one to blame.
Your First Love is a post from: Stormented

As we go into this season for one more year, as we dream about the gifts we will be able to give, and stress about the ones we won't. As we hustle and stress on a treadmill that just seems to get faster, remember what this season is really trying to do. It's calling us to see and treat the ones around us better, despite how they look or what resources they bring to the table. Because that's the way Jesus did. Because that's the glory of God.
The Glory of God is a post from: Stormented

In Abilene, somewhere around 70% of people are not connected to any church. There are an increasing number of people addicted to meth, cocaine, weed and heroin. The abuse of children is growing rampantly, not by teachers or baby-sitters, but by other family members. Homelessness and poverty has grown to unprecedented proportions, and now so has burglary. My heart for church is that we grow, but not primarily with people who are just coming from another church. That's just swapping sheep and calling it Kingdom.
Red Ocean, Blue Ocean is a post from: Stormented

There are places in the Bible where it seems like God wants his people to exhorbantly and joyfully blow quite a bit of money celebrating life and freedom and Him. Which sounds strange, but only because we have developed a pretty anemic view of celebration. Because parties were his idea in the first place.
The Party Tithe is a post from: Stormented

So this is the video we showed yesterday at Church. This was a blast to make with our staff, thanks to Suzetta, Ben, Brandon and Sarah for helping to make this. For some reason they found it very natural to act annoyed at me, I think they may be pulling from deep waters there.
Highland on Twitter is a post from: Stormented
