One of my favorite books from last year was "With" by Skye Jethani. He asks the question What is the most important thing in your life, what is your treasure?" He points out that if the answer to that question isn't Jesus. Then what you've got, no matter how great it is, is an idol. And the church might just be the one to blame.

Can I Get a Witness?

As we read through the book of Revelation, we would do good to remind ourselves that this letter isn't written to us, at least not directly they way we think about it. It was first written to Jesus followers who lived in the world ruled by Rome. They were misunderstood, for the most part they lived in poverty and on the margins, they were beginning to be hated and persecuted, and so God gives John a vision for them.

You’ve Got to Fight For Your Right…

God has given us much to celebrate. And yes there is time to dance and a time to mourn, but each season has it's rightful place, but what we've seem to have done is a lukewarm mixture of both. The spirit of Despair is so easy to give into. Cynicism is the currency that we deal in, and Christians are no different. So I would like to suggest that churches pay attention to this more as a spiritual discipline. Because the Kingdom of God has come and is coming.

This is a video that we showed at Highland a few weeks ago as we kicked off the new series EXTRAS. I read an article last year about the myriad of people who are in front of the cameras but behind the scenes in all of your favorite films and TV Shows. Most of them will never get discovered, they work hard and are paid little. And the question that kept coming back to me was..."Why? Why would anyone do this?"

There is a multi-billion dollar industry right now that exists to convince you that you don't have enough. Marketing companies try to recreate an emotional experience that is common to growing up and then try to pitch their product to recreate these kinds of experience. It's all designed to create discontentment.
